Tuesday March 14, 2006 - Portillo's Crazy Weekend

This past Saturday was all about our little pup - Portillo. He got to go to his very favorite place in the whole world - the dry cleaners. He is showered with attention and treats by the ladies at Russell's. It is amazing how he knows that the pile of clothes in the chair = treats. As soon as we park, he tugs the whole way there.

His adventure did not end there. In celebration of St. Patty's day, we stayed downtown Naperville to enjoy the West Suburban Irish Parade (read - a chance for the politicans to hand out crap). He behaved very well in his hand me down green sweater and only got a little feisty towards the end. But who can blame him? He was doing ok with all of the kids running for the candy that was being thrown......until he got pelted by a handful of tootsie rolls. Fortunately, I was able to pull him back before he got any of the candy.

Next we were off to the monthly Dachshund meetup in the city at Of Mutts and Men. There he got to play with a dozen or so other doxies. After a few hours of chasing his friends, we headed off to my old neighborhood in Lincoln Park for a little walk.

It was just too nice of a day to pass any of the events up - but little PT was very glad to return home and nap for pretty much the rest of the weekend.

Monday March 6, 2006 - More Wedding/House Fun

This past weekend Steve and I had the pleasure of getting deeper into the wedding plans. Saturday morning we met with Father O'Keefe to review the results of the FOCUS questionnaire we completed a few months ago which looks at our compatability and readiness for marriage. We passed! It was interesting to see that we were very strong in communication and yet we have very different styles of solving problems.

Next, we met with the organist to start determining what songs to play during the ceremony. It was great to see what the largest organ in the state of IL can do! We are still narrowing down some of our selections and need to talk things through with our 3 vocalists (Kate, Jeanne and Deanna) - but I think we are well on our way. Plus it is always a good sign when not only do I get a little teary-eyed hearing the music that will play as I walk down the aisle - but Steve did as well.

After depositing the pup at a friend's house for the night - we are started on a new project of painting the townhouse. Let's just say no one is going to hire me as a professional painter - and I am just fine with that! We were able to get through the living room (with the exception of the closet). The color is called grey beige - which looks purple when you first apply - but turns to kind of well - a grey beige when it dries. I am glad we are able to try this stuff out on a house that we are selling. I can't imagine how nerve racking it will be to do this at 108!

Monday morning started off a bit slow - but we are looking forward to more house selling fun this week!
